April 27th, 2007It is inexpensive to move around the islands by bus or taxis and food in cafes and restaurants tends to be cheap too. There is an Indian influence that means lots of curries are available and there is plenty Chinese cuisine. Fish and chips are very popular, especially with the many Australian travelers. Japanese and Korean dishes are popular too along with eateries serving local seafood. Fijian meat dishes are usually pork or lamb. Farmers Markets are a good place to buy locally grown bananas, papayas, breadfruit, mangoes and other tropical fruit. The local drink on the Fiji Islands is an alcoholic drink made from peppers called Kava, which is very spicy.
