Find Food Gift Ideas

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Keep special occasion gift giving simple. Walk the local mall. They always have nut stores or specialty shops for gift baskets with food and wine. Unless it is a kids group, go past the oversized cookie store. Or what is even easier is to use the internet to find gift ideas. First, you need to know a little bit about the person the gift is for. Do they like boating, golf, arts, entertainment or dining out. With that information, you can choose a topic to search for on the internet.

Type in the topic of interest plus the word gifts and you will receive more choices than you know what to do with. From there, you can minimize the choices further. For example after you locate some gift basket websites, then enter cheese and wine. Your choices will be less, but more specific and you will still have plenty of food gift ideas.

Beautiful British Columbia – Visiting Victoria

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

In addition to Victoria’s longtime affection for afternoon tea, Victoria and southern Vancouver Island are developing a reputation as Canada’s Provence. Artisan cheeses, seaweed, water buffalo, poultry, unique produce, ciders, and fine wine are created and harvested by a handful of local farms and producers.

Fine Dining - Experiencing Upscale Restaurants

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I won’t give up getting really great food in upscale restaurants because of these people, but they do limit when I will go. There is my husband to contend with as well. He is much like me. He loves the food, but he always feels uncomfortable there. I think it is because of the dress code, and for a construction worker, I can see where that would be a problem. When he does dress up, he looks great.

Pick A Theme For The Best Dinner Party Ideas

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

There are lots of dinner party ideas you can have for you next dinner party.

You can base your dinner party around a theme. For example, a Gothic theme. You can have everyone come to the dinner party wearing black and looking like vampires. Just make sure you hide all the crucifixes and the garlic so as not to frighten any real vampires that may turn up.

The food can also be based around the same theme. You may serve only red wine and food  based on Gothic themes.

There are plenty of dinner party ideas, as long as you know the theme you wish to use for your dinner party.

Wine - Art, Science & Business

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

An article about wine.

Wine production has been carried out in one form or another for thousands of years. Archaeological digs in Persia (present day Iran) have discovered pottery dated at 5,500 BC showing evidence of grapes used for winemaking. Jars containing wine made from wild grapes dating back to between 6000 and 7000 BC has been uncovered in Jiahu, China.

Tasty Inexpensive Wines

Going to a local vineyard is a great way to spend an afternoon as well as a wonderful way to support your community. Wineries also have taste testing dates that offer extra value. It’s nice to find tasty inexpensive wines by visiting vineyards but this isn’t the most convenient approach for many enthusiasts. Some states don’t really offer the type of climate necessary to grow the necessary ingredients in this timeless drink. People who live in winery-free regions can still find inexpensive wines that are fantastic.

The 32 Bottle Wine Cooler

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Trading whiskey or beer for a glass of wine makes sense and having a few bottles to choose from is a great idea. Keeping the wine cold may seem to be as easy as putting it in your fridge but actually if you are a regular connoisseur of red wine investing in a 32 bottle wine refrigerator is a much better choice.

If your experience with drinking this divine nectar harvested from grapes is limited to ordering a glass now and again in a restaurant you may not realize that different wines taste best at different temperatures. If you’re looking for one of the larger wine refrigerators then you probably have a very clear idea of what you’re looking for.

Making Fresh Fruit Wines

Making Fresh Fruit Wines

There is no need for me to mention the enormous popularity this branch of home wine-making enjoys, or that countless thousands of people all over the world embark with tremendous enthusiasm each summer upon turning wild fruits and surplus garden fruits into wines fit to grace the tables of a banqueting hall. Just let me say that, no matter how advanced methods become and how easily obtainable special ingredients for wine making are, there will always be in the hearts of everyone a place for the true country wines, for they have that indefinable ’something’ which sets them apart from all others, a uniqueness that cannot be found in any other wine either commercial or home produced.

The methods I use myself are described here, and although they are the simplest and the surest ever evolved, it is necessary to point out the complications that arise if these methods are not used.

Years ago and, I am very sorry to say, even today many thousands of unfortunate home wine makers are following methods which advocate: ‘crush the fruits, add the water and leave to ferment’. Other methods advise boiling the fruits. In both cases disappointment is almost a certainty, and this is why:

Romance is a Chocolate and Wine Gift Basket

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Matching the right chocolate and wine is an important consideration, though. Just like a steak should be paired with a strong red wine, chocolate should also be paired with an appropriate taste. It sounds simple perhaps, but there are so many kinds of chocolate; the best gifts incorporating wine and chocolate are ones that carefully pair two complementing tastes with one another.

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

A wine of the month gift club membership is the gift that keeps giving month after month. Mix Your Chocolate and Wine Gifts Carefully

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Successful pairing depends on matching strengths; just like a dry red wine is best paired with a rich steak, a dry red wine should be paired with something that’s equally hearty when it comes to chocolate.  A chocolate and wine gift that has a dry red wine should have a very dark chocolate with it in order to get good complementing tastes.

1)    A chocolate that is much heavier in cocoa than in sugar is the only kind of chocolate that is going to stand up to the robust flavor of a dry red wine.

2)    A rose wine is best paired with a milder chocolate such as white chocolate or chocolate with almonds or hazelnuts.

3)    A wine gift with milk chocolate can be paired with a dry white wine.

Learn How To Make Wines That Are So Incredibly Flavorsome That No-One Could Resist - Better Than Any Free Wine Tour!

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

If you want to make wine there is no excuse for not doing so: you need neither license nor cellar and the utensils may already be in your house, flat or caravan -for wine may be made in the smallest of places. To make a couple of gallons of wine is no more bother than to bake a tray of cakes or pickle a few jars of onions, and in comparison the rewards of your labours are far more pleasurable.

A word of warning: The fact that home-made wines do not exceed fourteen per cent (by volume) of alcohol leads the uninitiated to believe that they can drink unlimited quantities without it having effect upon them. How wrong they are! It is a saying in country districts that ‘home-made wine is all right when you know how to drink it*. The unsuspected kick in home-made wines has to be felt to be believed. Drink home-made wine as you would drink neat whisky.

Before we begin, I ought to say that two people using the same recipes do not necessarily turn out identical wines any more than they would turn out identical sponge-cakes by using the same mixture. Why? The answer lies, probably, in the fact that one may make a good cup of tea while the other does not, but - tea, sponge-cake or wine - there is always someone to like it the way you have made it.

Cheese - Aging Cheese to Perfection

Sunday, March 18th, 2007
One of the most important steps in the making of cheese is the aging process. It can be nearly absent, in which case so-called fresh cheese is produced. That’s consumed right away and there are many fine cheeses of this type. But the majority experience aging of various lengths.

It isn’t just the amount of time a cheese is aged, however, that contributes heavily to the flavor and consistency of the final product. Anyone can let a piece of cheese sit on a shelf. But, like fine wines, what leads up to the aging step affects that period, and what is done during is also critical…..read more at Cheese - Aging Cheese to Perfection

Wine Vinegar - Experience Exclusive Taste Of Gourmet Cooking

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Gourmet vinegars have the kind of intense fruitiness, acid balance and long finish you would expect from a good wine, like late harvest Riesling. Some Italian producers make terrific vinegar with an acetic acid level low enough to qualify it as an after-dinner drink. Not to mention raspberry vinegar, bursting with ripe fruit. For example, a tablespoon of Moscato wine in a glass of seltzer made a refreshing drink, as did some Spanish Unio Moscatel vinegar in seltzer.
