There are countless varieties of Latin American Chiles. Capsaicin is the compound in chiles and hot peppers that make them hot. Chile heat is measured in Scoville units, which is the amount of water and time it takes to neutralize chile heat after ingestion.
Dried chilies, pickled chiles, chile hot sauces, and even fresh chiles can be ordered online. Or consider growing your own. Chile seeds may be available at garden shops and are available online.

The best reason for growing organic vegetables is the health benefits when cooking with organic food. Store bought herbs and vegetables, as well as fruit, are typically grown in environments where chemical pesticides are used. It is obvious that pesticides are not good for anyones health.
By growing your own chemical free organic herbs and vegetables, you can be sure that you are eating the healthiest garden foods possible. Another benefit to cooking with organic food is the taste. You will notice better tasting foods when cooking with organically grown vegetables.

Many people think that adopting the vegetarian lifestyle is boring - you eat the same bland fruits and vegetables every day of the week. You call that exciting? Little do they know that when you become a vegetarian you can eat the same foods that you eat now, only you exchange the meat for something else.
There are different ways to start your vegetarian diet without going into meat withdrawal. For example, with burritos, skip the meat and eat one with rice, beans, tomatoes, bell peppers and onions.

Raw sweet potatoes are rich in vitamins, minerals and iron.
They can be found in your local grocery store, quite often next to the white potatoes. Sweet potatoes can be baked or steamed, just like baked white potato or made into a sweet potato pie(tastes like pumpkin pie).
I like to have baked sweet potato next to pieces of meat, like turkey or chicken, just makes the meal so delicious.

For those who take their garden designs seriously, they know how expensive it can be to buy plants and often the ones they buy do not survive. They also know that all seeds are not created equal. Retail companies often have cheap seeds which may sound like a bargain, but if they don’t grow you have wasted your money.

Dauphinoise Potatoes are commonly seen as Potato Recipes in cookery books. The potatoes are sliced and baked in the oven with milk, onion, nutmeg and seasoning. Haggerty is a similar dish but with grated cheddar cheese. The addition of garlic or mustard to mashed potato adds a bit of spiciness. Some people like to fry potato slices in butter and add some cayenne pepper. Grated potato is sometimes added to pancake batter to make a tasty savory pancake.

Fresh fruit are always available. Some fruit may not be in season, but there is always other fruit that are in season. You can have fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the year.
For example, I have seen at the local market, apples and pears available all the time, bananas arrive from the tropical areas and you can always get some fresh vegetables for your salads.
You can even have a little garden in your backyard to supply your herbs, fruit and vegetables for your salads and cooking requirements.
A couple of fruit trees in the backyard, will add to the variety of fruits available to the family. Orange, Lemon, Apple and Pear trees are quite popular. You can pick your vegetables and fruit whenever you need them.

In Italy, where salad is a common side dish, the dressing is simple, containing olive oil, vinegar, salt and black pepper. What is known as Italian Dressing in the United States is rather more involved. The ingredients are oil, lemon juice, vinegar, herbs and spices, seasoning, onions and bell peppers. French Dressing, a version of the classic Vinaigrette, has different ingredients in various countries. Commonly, recipes are based on olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, mustard and wine vinegar.

Salad dressings can contain a lot of calories and may adversely affect your diet control plans. If the only reason you are eating salad is to control your weight, then use a low calorie salad dressing as an appetizer on your salad.
Salads should contain only fruit and vegetables and with some vegetable oil and a little vinegar. If you want to increase the taste, you can add a low calorie salad dressing, so that there is no adverse affect to your weight.
You always see people who are on a diet eating salad, and you see those same people weeks later saying their diet didn’t work and that they just can’t lose weight. It might be that they do have a hard time losing weight, but it might also be their salad dressing.

Salad dressing is added to salads to increase taste and flavour. Rather than eating raw vegetables and fruits in a salad, you can add a little dressing to make the salad more delicious and appetizing.
A salad dressing is similar to adding sauce to freshly cooked meat. You add a salad dressing to a freshly prepared salad full of fresh ingredients. You get the extra tangy taste when a salad dressing is added.
There’s is a wide range of salad dressings, from the popular Italian and French Salad Dressings to the Thousand Island Dressings.

Homemade fruit smoothies and juices are an ideal way to get the daily fruit and vegetable requirements your body needs. Try the delicious apple juice recipe below provided by lifestylesmoothies.com.
Making your own smoothie is an exciting way to keep your nutrient intake up and allows you to be imaginative and experiment with different combinations. If you like berries, make a berry smoothie for breakfast, try experimenting with a few extra ingredients like cucumber, tomato, ginger or celery juice, you’ll discover that adding a single extra piece of fruit can create a new, delicious taste sensation. As well as adding excitement to a boring fruit and veg routine, you may want to try adding a smoothie to your breakfast to get a real kick-start in the morning.
Some fruits and veges (such as apple, carrot, spinach……etc) cannot be blended to smooth, so you will need to use a juicer before adding it to the smoothie mix, or simply make a fruit/vege juice.
Below is one of my favorite fruit juice recipes, it takes just a few minutes to make and is a deliciously light start to the day.
Quick Apple Juice Recipe
ingredients
- two ripe feijoas
- two fresh apples
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ lime
Slice the skin off the feijoas and lime. Slice feijoas and apples into appropriate sizes for your juicer. Juice feijoas, apples and lime. Add cinnamon and shake well.

When preparing a healthy dinner cook your ingredients the same day or at least in the same week you bought them. This will maintain taste and tenderness in the vegetables, lean meat and fish.
There is nothing worse than stale unhealthy dinner. Resulting in lost appetite and feeling hungry all the time. Just don’t feed that hunger with snacks or fast food. They are full of preservatives and mountains of fat.
The secret is to keep your ingredients fresh when you are preparing dinner and you will have a healthy meal.
