I’ve never gone through a single year without getting several bad colds, the flu, or even worse. As a result of my poor health, I’ve become very familiar with both over-the-counter and prescription medications. I never gave my medications a second thought until I read a published report that said these drugs might be doing more harm than good in some cases. That’s when I decided to look into alternative herbal medicine…

Cold Remedies - From Echinacea To Garlic

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

There are three herbs you’ll want on hand in your cupboard, ready at the first sign of a cold. These powerhouse herbs can prevent the cold from taking root, knocking it out within a couple of days, saving you most of the miseries of the common cold. These herbs are echinacea, garlic and ginger. Echinacea gives your immune system an immediate boost, allowing your body to fight off and sometimes even prevent the cold. Take three or four capsules three times a day. Grab your garlic and ingest this in quantity. Raw is best, as cooking tends to dilute the effect. Garlic and parsley capsules, with parsley combating the garlic breath, will work.

Salad Recipes

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

My salad recipes were easy to make and two of my favorite recipes had huge success. I like to mix things which normally people don’t think putting together in salad recipes, like spinach and strawberries with spicy poppy seeds dressing. Or three different types of peppers mixed with three types of cheese and mushrooms, or everybody’s favorite apple pickle salad with sunflower seeds.

Hot Pepper Plants - Spice Up Your Life!

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I acquired what my girlfriend calls my  “culinary death collection one hot pepper plant at a time. Once I saw how easy it was to grow habanero plants, I wanted to get a jalapeño plant as well. I would use them in chile, Mexican food, Indian food, and in cuisines where they had no business at all.

Although there are about 25 species of the genus Coffea, only two are grown commercially and destined for our coffee cups. These two are the Arabica and Robusta coffee plants. Of the other species, some are available as indoor plants, more as a conversation piece than anything else.
