Learn How to Cook Salmon Sushi Recipe

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

2 cups Japanese sushi rice
6 tbl. rice wine vinegar
6 sheets Nori (dry seaweed)
1 avocado - peeled, pitted and sliced
1 cucumber, peeled and sliced
8 ounces smoked salmon, cut into long strips
2 tbl. Wasabi paste

Procedures:

Soak rice for 4 hours. Drain rice and cook in a rice cooker with 2 cupsof water. Rice must be slightly dry as vinegar will be added later. Immediately after rice is cooked, mix in 6 tablespoons rice vinegar to the hot rice. Spread rice on a plate until completely cool.
Place 1 sheet of seaweed on bamboo mat, press a thin layer of cool rice on the seaweed. Leave at least 1/2 inch top and bottom edge of the seaweed uncovered. This is for easier sealing later. Dot some Wasabi on the rice. Arrange cucumber, avocado and smoked salmon to the rice.

Position them about 1 inch away from the bottom edge of the seaweed. Slightly wet the top edge of the seaweed. Roll from bottom to the top edge with the help of the bamboo mat tightly. Cut roll into 8 equal pieces and serve. Repeat for other rolls.

Do You Indulge in the Most Expensive Coffee

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

How much would you pay for the finest, expensive coffee beans? Actually, maybe you should first know where this coffee comes from. It all starts with an animal called the luwak. This badger-looking creature consumes the coffee cherries from their natural habitat. Once eaten, the coffee beans cling together before passing out of the luwak’s digestive track.

Southern Minnesota food

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Believe it or not the cooking in Minnesota both in Restaurants and in homes is responsible in part for the amount of southern Minnesota tourism that takes place. This is the one real area of the US that has true Scandinavian prepared just the way it was in the old country. The food is actually what allows the people to endure the cold like they do. It is full of the right amount of fat and calories to maintain body heat during the harsh winters. Some of the dishes such as lutefisk are not to my liking, but some people think it is the greatest food on earth. It was originally developed as a way to preserve fish and it turned into a delicacy. Now some of the dishes are really wholesome and hardy and really good to eat. Take lefsa, a bread made out of potatoes. That is some good eating. Families come home from far and wide because they just can’t get that kind of cooking anywhere else. Even the local restaurants will make both these dishes during certain parts of the year just to satisfy their customers. Love it or hate it, it is a special food with a special flavor of Minesota.

Minnesota foods

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Different areas of the country have different food specialties and it is fun to sample as many as you can. I do a fair amount of Minnesota travel and as so have become accustomed to Norwegian foods. I guess each region of the country brings their heritage foods with them. Just as the food from the deep south comes from French. The foods from the northeast seem to be Viking food. As a whole we tend to go with what we are used to and not try different foods. That is a shame as there is such a wide variety of good foods out there to be consumed. I like to grab a cookbook that has Italian food in it and spend a week cooking Italian. Maybe the next week I will grab a Greek cookbook and cook Greek for a week. This way I have a wide variety of tastes to enjoy and it is actually quite healthy as there are a wide variety of types of food I consume. Some types cook with more vegetables, some with more meat, and some with more bread and pastas. By changing types I get a little of everything, maybe not daily, but at least I get them weekly.

Arabica Coffee

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Are you one of those individuals who are utterly grouchy and irritable every morning if you don’t have your coffee? Many people have told me this before. Apparently that early surge of caffeine is what perks them up and gets them going. I must say for me it is quite different. Sure I love a great cup of arabica coffee in the a.m., but it’s not for the caffeine aspect. I love my daily java fix for the plain and simple taste. It really doesn’t have anything to do with the caffeine in it. I can have an iced latte before I go to bed and I will still sleep like a baby. So I personally have never understood the whole spiel about caffeine keeping you awake. My body must be unaffected by the key ingredient. Anyway, what is your reason for drinking coffee on a regular basis? Is it the eye-opening caffeine, or the incomparable taste? On the other hand, maybe it’s both.

Fruit Cakes For Healtth

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

When I was growing up, there was nothing more stressful or feared during the holidays than grandma’s fruitcake. I know that my experience is not unique. Fruitcakes are feared all over the country. The everlasting fruit cake is the bane of any holiday season. Fruit and flower baskets, Christmas ornaments, cheesy family cards, eggnog - all of these meet appreciation wherever they are given. Those tough, indestructible fruit cakes alone ruin the holiday season!

Diet Information

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Some diet information online is geared towards a certain problem. Many with diabetes or insulin resistance won’t lose weight on plans that have helped other people. Some articles may be written to get you to try a new diet, and makes no mention of possible medical complications that may arise on that particular diet. Some online sites that offer diet information also offer help and inspiration. They will help tailor a diet plan that is the very best for your lifestyle, and may also have message boards you can use to find new information, and network with others who are also trying to lose weight. This kind of support may mean the difference between success and failure.
