Health Benefits of Red Wine

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Many studies have suggested that red wine lowers the risk of heart attack for people by up to 30 percent, and it is also suggested that it may be able to prevent future heart attacks if you have already suffered from one.

Red wine is also thought to be able to help blood clots from forming, and to reduce the blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits.

While red wine isn’t considered a cure at all, and certainly not a substitute for visiting your physician, they are commonly agreed upon benefits to drinking red wine.

Delicious Cocktails

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

If you want to learn how to mix your own cocktails, there are some things you can do. First, if you want to take it seriously and do it for a profession, you can actually go to school to learn how to be a bartender. Bartenders mix cocktails for a living and they learn how to do it with flair. In your training you will also be taught how to create your own drink variations and become a mixologist.

But you don’t need to go to school to learn how to mix drinks. If you know how to cook and follow instructions, you can learn how to put together a cocktail. You can find recipes in books and online. Just find all the ingredients and tools you need and get started. But a word of warning. If you are used to following standard recipes you will notice that cocktails are written differently. Everything is in ‘parts’. A cocktail may call for ‘2 parts heavy cream, 1 part Kahlua, and 1 parts vodka’ (a variation on a White Russian). To work with ‘parts’ you simply choose a measurement. In this case, I would use a standard shot glass. So, the recipe would be ‘2 Shots heavy cream, 1 shot Kahlua, and 1 shot of vodka’.

Wine Making

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Wine making is one of the fastest-growing hobbies in the United States. It is a skill passed down from generation to generation and each successful generation likes to add some special touches to give there wine a unique taste. Wine making
is like anything else, the more you practice, the better you will become. There are five basic components to making wine: harvesting, crushing and pressing, fermentation, clarification, aging and bottling. This hobby is remarkably easy to learn and, compared to other hobbies, amazingly cheap plus it is fun and makes great gifts for that special occasion.

Val de Loire

Monday, May 12th, 2008

The Loire Valley, or Val de Loire
, is a large wine producing region in France that ranges from nearly the center of the country, west of Burgundy, all the way to the west coast. It is a vast area encompassing many different appellations which produce all types of wines, from light-bodied whites to full-bodied reds. For some reason, besides a few notable producers this region has remained relatively invisible to the great majority of the wine world. While well versed wine enthusiasts know and love the Loire well, your average wine drinker in the United States knows little of the region.

Wine Investment

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Wine Investment
is not at the top of investors’ minds. For some investors, it may be at the back of their minds to keep a few bottles in case the prices appreciate, but no one is explicitly buying wines as an investment. It’s very much by chance to those who discover that their wine collection is worth a lot more over time. The lack of interest in wines as an investment could be due to the fact that investors are still at the appreciation stage and don’t view wines as a commodity.

Beer Travel Guide To Europe

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Belgium has more than hundred breweries collectively producing about 500 different sorts of beers which in breadth almost rival the wines in France. Most of them with specially shaped beer glasses in which only this kind of beer may be served. The shape of each glass is specially designed for a particular beer in order to emphasize its flavor and character. The choices of flavor are endless, from raspberry to chocolate to peach and cherry. The diversity of styles is huge, from blonde ale to lambic to Trappist and abbey. The most interesting kind of beer, which can not be found anywhere else in world, is Trappist beer. Six Trappist abbeys, which were established by Trappist monks who left France after the turbulence of the Napoleonic period, produce rich dark ales according to centuries-old methods. Chimay, Orval, Westmalle are among them.

Fine Wines

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Fine wines are generally classified according to its given mode of production and area. For instance, most of the fine wines
are typified as German made. In order for a wine to be classified as fine, there must be some balance in all of its parts. This means that no part of the wine, such as its flavor or color, should be a cut above the rest. Fine wines should always make an impression.

The restaurants of South Dakota attract tourists

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Some of my favorite South Dakota tourist attractions are the restaurants scattered around the state. I love all of them, from the Mom and Pop place on main street in many of the small towns to the top of the line Sioux City places that average a hundred dollars a meal. That really isn’t all that unreasonable considering the type of meal you get there. My girlfriend and I like to go to the high end places on special days. I will usually order a mixed drink and she will order a bottle of wine for us to share. She is much better at picking an appropriate wine than I am. Then I will order the prime rib and she will order whatever catch of the day is on the menu. The service is usually quite good and the evening is enjoyed by all of us. On the other hand when we go into the smaller mom and pop places we usually sit at the counter if they have one. If they don’t then we sit in a booth and I do the ordering for both of us. I know these places and they usually have very good food and lots of it.

Colorado’s Dining Epicenter: LoDo

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

When current Mayor John Hickenlooper signed the lease for his first restaurant in the late 1980s, Wynkoop Brewing Co., at the corner of 18th and Wynkoop in Lower Downtown Denver, the city was a very different place.  There was no Coors Field or Pepsi Center drawing people to downtown and the area was considered unsafe by many.  There were many abandoned warehouses and the area was largely run-down.

Today, LoDo is the epicenter of dining and entertainment in Colorado.  LoDo has the largest concentration of bars and restaurants per square mile in the state of Colorado and patrons can find a broad variety of establishments, from steak houses to dance clubs.  Denver is a sports town at heart and the addition of Coors Field in 1995 and the Pepsi Center in 1998 to the LoDo area and neighboring Auraria campus area, respectively, has provided a great draw and pulse back to Downtown Denver.  Visitors to the Denver area should make sure to visit LoDo and take in the historic charm of the area where the city was founded and enjoy some tasty fare at one of the many local establishments.

Where should you store your wines

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

If you own a larger collection of wines, the best decision would be to think about wine cellars and large wine racks that are in the back or at least, otherwise out of the way so that your guests do not have to struggle to get by them.

If you usually have only one or two bottles of wine in your home, then it will generally be more useful to just using a regular sized wine rack which you can sit out in your dining room or kitchen.
