Use Gourmet Nuts in your Cooking

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Any type of nut makes a great snack. Not only do they taste wonderful, they are usually much better for you than things like chips or pretzels. But don’t limit yourself to just snacking on nuts, there are some other easy and delicious ways to use them in meals.

Gourmet nuts are very versatile, not only as a snack but in your favorite recipes as well. Nuts are one of the most nutritious foods you can offer. They are packed with protein, fiber, potassium, and many other needed vitamins and minerals. When used in cooking, though, they aquire a whole new dimension. Creative chefs make use of many types of gourmet nuts in appetizers, main courses, and desserts. But it doesn’t take a skillful chef to whip up some interesting delicacies including almonds, cashews, macadamias, pecans, and more.

You can use nuts for baking, as a crunchy coating for fish or chicken, or add them to stirfry recipes or even your breakfast cereal. The sky is the limit to what they can be used in.

Buy your gourmet nuts online and save with a gourmet nuts coupon code. Happy eating!

Loving the Simple Fruit Salad

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Most people today are aware of the necessity of a healthy, well balanced diet. And where do most of us fall short? Fruits and veggies. Produce is expensive and most of us are put off when told we need 5-9 servings a day in order to be adequately nourished. But a simple fruit salad fits in to any menu, at breakfast, lunch or dinner. A half cup serving of fruit next to a bowl of whole grain cereal and a cup of milk makes a quick and nutritious meal to start the day.

Take a few minutes to learn more about the benefits of a fruit salad and how you can make it a bigger part of your daily healthy diet. A similar article (at the East West Editorial blog, which researches and reports on information for today’s consumer lifestyles) discusses how even the right broccoli recipes can change your mind about meal planning and healthy eating.

Do You Know the 10 Healthiest Foods?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Recently, someone challenged the researchers at East West Editorial to research and find the 10 healthiest foods. While there are literally thousands of foods from which to choose, the effort ultimately focused on produce – which is ultra-rich in nutrients and cancer-fighting antioxidants – and perhaps the most neglected item on everyone’s menus.

You can review the 10 healthiest foods list at the East West blog (we’ll give two of them away here: berries and bananas) and see if you don’t agree that larger portions of these fruits and veggies shouldn’t play a starring role at your table. A companion article on how to lower your cholesterol may be helpful as well.

Pasta Gift Basket

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Looking at various gift baskets I came across a pasta gift basket that was an interesting concept. We have got pretty much used to the variety of baskets in the market place nowadays such as baby basket, spa, sports, BBQ baskets, etc. But, I can’t tell you how impressed I was with this type of dinner basket.

A pasta basket is a great idea as there are many types of dried foods that you could get gift wrapped and sent which won’t need refrigeration. But I liked the idea of one of the basket choices that went a step further and would package up with your suggestions, or they would do it themselves – an Italian gourmet meal for two. Not only is this clever marketing, but they will include a recipe that could be followed easily and of course the foods required are in the basket! What also appealed to me is the fact that they will deliver the items cleverly packaged in a colander which can be used with the meal and then kept for a keepsake after.

Recently, someone challenged me to name the 10 healthiest foods. I found the query intriguing – there are literally thousands of foods from which to choose!

After pondering this question, it occurred to me that most Americans get more than their fair share of meat and dairy products and therefore need no urging to include these foods in their diets.

We all know that excessive amounts of fat, sugar and processed foods aren’t good for us.

That narrows the field of candidates for inclusion in this list of the 10 healthiest foods we should be consuming. You’ve guessed it by now, right?

The Bodum Columbia 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal Press Pot certainly will do the job!

Product Description

Perfect for the home or the workplace, this french coffee press coffeemaker doubles as an insulated thermos so coffee remains hot and fresh for around two hours. The pot keeps Thirty four ounces (1 liter), virtually seven Five-ounce cups, and works extremely well for making tea as well as coffee. It’s made from stainless steel polished to a mirror-finish, includes a big, comfortable handle, and is dishwasher-safe. The lid seals in warmth remarkably well and turns to stop heat from escaping through the spout between pours. The pot stands Eight-1/2 inches high, including the plunger top.

Product Details

* French press produces coffee directly in thermos

* Retains Thirty four-ounces, virtually seven Five-ounce cups

* Keeps coffee warm for 2 hours

* Made of stainless-steel finished to mirror-finish

* Dishwasher safe

French Press coffee has one negative aspect, if you don’t deliver the total pot whenever it’s first brewed then it seems to be cool. This pot could be a help. It is not really fantastic but it maintains the coffee warm or hot for awhile. I fill it full of very hot tap water before I create the coffee in it and after that the coffee stays hot for more time. I believe it’s the very best press available on the market at this price tag.

One other factor to be conscious of is when these coffee pots are rated for 10-Twelve cups that they will be some what less. The cups they’re discussing usually are 4 ounce cups. All these coffee pots help make Four regular cups of coffee and no greater. PS: It is an affordable way to lower your coffee store costs.
