How To Cook Steak

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

When growing up, I always thought steaks should be done all the way through. This was because this was the only way it was ever served to me. When I started getting older and went out to eat more often, I was confused about what it meant when someone asked me how I would like my steak. The answer ‘cooked please’ often brought confusion and laughter from the waiter or waitress. Finally someone explained to me that there are various degrees of ways or times to cook steak that make a huge difference in how they taste.

Staying Alive with Organic Foods

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Have you read the paper lately or watched the TV news programs?  If so I’m sure you’re aware that the studies show that chemicals in our food and our environment are making us sick and in some cases killing people.

This has been a problem for years.  Why aren’t we all eating organically grown foods and dumping the fast food and frozen pizza down the drain.

The problem is that organic food can be so much more expensive and home cooking takes a fair amount of time.   But as we age many people are wanting to have better health in their old age.  One of the things that will make this happen is the for mentioned “eating organic foods and also eliminating all chemicals from your diet.   This may seem extreme. But lets look at the recent guest on the Dr Phil show who talks about the sores on her body that are extruding some type of fibers and it turns out  that there are at least 1000 people so far in the US suffering from this same “unknown disease.  The fact is baby boomers are the first generation of chemical laden children (children fed on foods packed with chemicals and preservatives) to grow old.  Maybe it’s time to get into Organics!

Mushroom Soup: A Superior Gourmet Comfort Food

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

When the nights are cold and dreary, nothing hits the spot quite like a hearty soup. Here are a few ideas for one such meal that will win applause from your family: the ubiquitous international comfort food, mushroom soup.
Mushroom soup is a savory soup of simple origins, which usually begins with a roux of flour and butter. The classic base of mushroom soup is a creamy broth that perfectly complements the juicy texture and flavor of mushrooms. This soup is so easy to make, yet may easily be made into a gourmet meal.
While just the regular white mushroom may be used, you may also include a variety of mushrooms, fresh or dried, to produce a truly delightful four-star dish.

Health Benefits of Red Wine

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Many studies have suggested that red wine lowers the risk of heart attack for people by up to 30 percent, and it is also suggested that it may be able to prevent future heart attacks if you have already suffered from one.

Red wine is also thought to be able to help blood clots from forming, and to reduce the blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits.

While red wine isn’t considered a cure at all, and certainly not a substitute for visiting your physician, they are commonly agreed upon benefits to drinking red wine.

Food Additives: Are You Concerned About Them?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Many of the most popular foods that you and me eat everyday contain at least a few of food additives.

Basically, anything that is not naturally a part of a food is considered a food additive. Similarly, artificial flavors are extremely common food additives.

For example, some of these ingredients are added to preserve the consistency of the product or to give a certain feel or texture.

Gaining Weight Fast

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Quickly gaining weight is not as easy as it sounds. Because you’re trying to build muscle mass and not fat, a carefully monitored diet is very important. Two methods are the best for gaining weight fast. Option one is to eat an almost exclusively protein diet, and experience the results immediately. Option two is to eat a high protein diet with some fat, and get rid of the body fat during the later winter months. The second method is known as cutting, though you really don’t want to keep gaining and losing a lot of weight often. Either way, you need to also follow a weight training routine to build more muscle.

Shoulder Weight Training Routines

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

A shoulder weight training routine can be a double edged sword. While you need to perform regular shoulder workouts to build stronger deltoids, you may end up overtraining them if you do too many sets for them. When you do your shoulder routine you may want to focus mostly on training the side heads of the delts since they don’t assist on exercises for other muscle groups as much as the front and rear deltoids do. Training the side deltoids will also help you build more width in the upper body.

Happy Meal can start early in life

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

I don’t know what happened but it happened very early in my daughter’s life. She was barely speaking when we drove by a McDonald’s and she uttered the words French fries. Though I know she may have had a happy meal or two, I wasn’t sure why she was so familiar with the golden arches. Essentially, McDonald’s foods taste very good. This doesn’t mean that I want her to eat there all the time though. I had to find out why she was so familiar with that particular restaurant….
