Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Bundt cake recipes are cake recipes that use a “bundt” cake pan or a round baking pan that with a hole in the middle and ridged, decorated sides. Bundt cake recipes use a dense cake such as a butter or pound cake recipe. These cakes are sturdy and last well. Recipes often call for a simple glaze or fruit topping. The name Bundt comes from the German word bund, which means “a gathering of people.”

Skin

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

When it comes to our skin, what we eat is very important. Skin is the biggest organ, and it deserves all the nutrition we can give it. One the most critical elements of skin health is vitamin A, and one of the best sources of this vitamin is low-fat dairy products. As a matter of fact, the health of our skin depends on vitamin A. Low-fat yogurt is high in vitamin A. Other excellent sources of vitamin A include cod liver oil, carrots, leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes and fortified breakfast cereals.

Vegetables

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

To prevent loss of nutrients in vegetables, it would be advisable to steam or boil vegetables in their juices on a slow fire and the water or cooking liquid should not be drained off. No vegetable should be peeled unless it is so old that the peel is tough and unpalatable. In most root vegetables, the largest amount of mineral is directly under the skin and these are lost if vegetables are peeled. Soaking of vegetables should also be avoided if taste and nutritional value are to be preserved.

How To Cure Acid Reflux Disease Naturally By Changing Lifestyle

Our lifestyle often plays a significant impact on our health. If you live in an area with a lot of smog, you have a higher chance to suffer respiratory illness. If you like to eat junk food, you have a higher chance to suffer from different kinds of cancer.

Lifestyle factors can also have a significant impact on acid reflux. For example, if you smoke, drink alcohol, and eat junk food, you run a big risk of having acid reflux disease. In fact, almost every aspect of our lives may have some impact on the severity and frequency of reflux attacks, from the way we dress to the way we sleep, from the way we eat to when we eat.

By making some lifestyle changes in order to reduce acid reflux, we exercise some measure of control over these episodes. Not all of the changes are as important as stop smoking, but some are simple: wear looser clothing and eat smaller meals.

First of all, stop smoking. A few minutes after smoking, the LES relaxed, allowing acid to splash into the esophagus, and it have a very real impact on causing acid reflux.

Healthy Alternatives To Salt

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Food tastes better when it is properly seasoned to bring out all the flavours. The seasoning of choice was always Salt which we now know is not the best thing to have in excess and healthy eating guidelines suggest that we avoid adding it. So how do we replace that as a flavour enhancer?

Salt in small quantities is necessary for life, you would soon be aware of health problems if you had no salt in your diet, the issue is with the huge quantities that are added to many processed foods to mask poor ingredients. There are many alternatives that can be used to give piquancy to your food. Fresh or dried herbs and spices are the obvious alternatives though I have to say, from a personal point of view, many foods taste just as good without any salt or seasoning. You get the full, natural flavour. Vegetables are one of the foods that can suffer from being salted in cooking. When you have lovely fresh Purple Sprouting Broccoli for example, or new Peas the salt masks the delicate flavours completely and turns them into something quite ordinary.

Acid Reflux And Bad Breath

Acid Reflux And Bad Breath

Say you are at a party and all of a sudden you get that stinging feeling in your throat. You scrunch up your face, look around the room and walk to a place where nobody can see you as you try to swallow away that biting liquid. Your loosen your collar, swallow some more of your wine, and try to get back into the conversation. Yet, when you do get a circle and join in the conversation, people start to back away from you, pretend to scratch their nose, and claim to be needed elsewhere. You can’t help but wonder if your recent bout of heartburn is related to your recent unpopularity?

One way that you can check if you have bad breath (if your best friend isn’t at the ready), is to lick the inside of your wrist and let it dry for a few seconds and then smell it. If there is an odor, then your breath isn’t as fresh as it should be.

If you are experiencing bad breath, or halitosis, then part of your problem might be either related to, or a direct result of acid reflux/GERD.

Most experts, medical and naturopathic alike will tell you that bad breath is caused by what you eat, lack of saliva swishing around in your mouth, stress, dehydration, and stomach activity, i.e. acid indigestion.

Cooking With A Frying Pan

Friday, March 21st, 2008

I got a great frying pan for my wedding that I thought would be one I could use for a very long time. The girl that bought it for me told me that it had a warranty on it, so I thought it would be around for at least ten years. It was not three years into my marriage that the frying pan that should have lasted began to act up. The coating was coming up, and even thought I took good care of it, and everything was sticking. I was disappointed, as you can imagine.

Cake Decorating with Jelly Beans

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I love baking cakes. Recently, I have starting experimenting with decorating cakes in new ways. I learned something quickly: I can put frosting on a cake just fine, provided it requires no fancy stuff. So, I started using jelly beans on the top of my cakes instead of complicated frosting configurations. I stick them together in patterns or make pictures. They don’t look professional, but they sure look fun. My nieces and nephews all want me to make their birthday cakes this year. However, instead of signing up for birthday baking, I sent the kids’ mother a link to the article where I got the idea. If you want to read the full article, you can go to Ten Additional Uses for Jelly Beans.

You can find great prices on jelly beans at Candy Warehouse.

How Do Cell Phone Boosters Really Work?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

A Cell Phone Booster is a passive device designed to reflect stray radiation in the body of the phone, and re-radiate that signal to improve the phone’s performance.

Internal Cell Phone Boosters fit digital, analog and tri-band phones.  Cell Phone Boosters will enhance a signal,  even weak ones.  But it will not help when there is no signal at all…

Here is some interesting info on these items: 50 Cell Phone Boosters.

Cooking With Oilve Oil

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Everyone knows the foods to eat that improve health, although how we cook the food can be just as important. With there being so many oils and butter products claiming to be the best, it can be quite difficult to know which ones to use and which ones to avoid.

1. Olive oil
olive oil offers a very distinct flavor with plenty of heart healthy ingredients. The oil is rich in monounsaturated fat, helps to lower cholesterol levels and reduce risk of cancer. It’s also rich in antioxidants and has a very long storage life.

Even though it can be used in cooking, it’s the healthiest when uncooked, such as with a salad or dipping sauce. When you use it with cooking, you should heat it on low to medium temperatures, making sure to avoid high heat.

Does the Atkins Diet Work?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

As a a carnivore who does not believe in the low fat myth - yes. What is great to many about the Atkins diet is the choice of foods. Fats are allowed, and are encouraged at the beginning of the diet. This is intriguing for most, as the no-fat and low-fat mantra has been drilled into our heads our entire lives. It sound great, but it is also a bit scary. Some think that the answer to the question ‘does the Atkins diet work’ is no because of what you can eat, but what they don’t know is that there is a lot of science behind this diet, and it has been around for decades with great success.

Complications Of Acid Reflux And How To Avoid Them

Complications of Acid Reflux and How to Avoid Them

One illness caused by acid reflux is Barrett’s Esophagus. It occurs when the tissue lining the esophagus actually gets changed into the type of tissue that is found in the intestine through a process called internal metaplasia. Barrett’s esophagus generally does not cause symptoms of itself, but having Barrett’s esophagus makes a person much more likely to get esophageal cancer. The only way to detect Barrett’s esophagus at this time is through an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and biopsy. There is no cure for Barrett’s esophagus other than the removal of the esophagus, which is only recommended for those who already have esophageal cancer.

Esophageal cancer occurs when cancer cells form in the esophagus. It starts on the inside lining and spreads outward. There are two common forms of esophageal cancer, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
