The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Sunday ordered the recall of 143 million pounds of frozen beef from Chino-based Westland/Hallmark Meat Co.
USDA Officials said this is the largest beef recall in the United States, surpassing a 1999 recall of 35 million pounds of ready-to-eat meats. No illnesses have been reported from this recalled meat and officials said the health threat was “small”.
Most of the meat has most likely already been consumed, said USDA officials at a news conference. About 37 million pounds of the recalled meat was sold to schools and other federal nutrition programs.

Home cooking does not mean endless hours in the kitchen preparing the family meal. By the time you arrive home, you do not want to spend two more hours preparing a nutritious, warm meal. You can have a hot meal on the dinner table within 30 minutes. The secret, is to prepare for the meal.
On your way home from work, stop at the food store and go to the salad bar and purchase fresh pre-sliced vegetables. You may also go to the meat section and buy a selection of small pieces of beef, lamb or boneless chicken, depending on your choice. The smaller size of meat, makes for quicker home cooking. Now, you have the essential ingredients of a quick nutritious meal.

Being one of the fattest country in the world, America have more health problems related to obesity. The normal diseases that Americans have are diabetes, high cholestrol and high blood pressure, which are above the world average. Although the main culprit is the lack of exercise, eating habbits is also one of the main reasons for the above mentioned diseases. Just move on to any urban or suburban area and you can see people eating fast food which is also called as junk food to all those big eating outlets such as Pizza Hut, Mc Donald’s, KFC etc. Even at home the designs of kitchens have changed to accomodate latest kitchen appliances to cook such kind of food.

Some of my favorite South Dakota tourist attractions are the restaurants scattered around the state. I love all of them, from the Mom and Pop place on main street in many of the small towns to the top of the line Sioux City places that average a hundred dollars a meal. That really isn’t all that unreasonable considering the type of meal you get there. My girlfriend and I like to go to the high end places on special days. I will usually order a mixed drink and she will order a bottle of wine for us to share. She is much better at picking an appropriate wine than I am. Then I will order the prime rib and she will order whatever catch of the day is on the menu. The service is usually quite good and the evening is enjoyed by all of us. On the other hand when we go into the smaller mom and pop places we usually sit at the counter if they have one. If they don’t then we sit in a booth and I do the ordering for both of us. I know these places and they usually have very good food and lots of it.

If you have a dinner party coming up and you’d really like to impress your guests, give them gourmet food to eat. Gourmet food is typically more expensive than normal everyday food, and for good reason. Gourmet is made with better ingredients, it’s prepared with a little more work and thought and it’s very delicious. So if you have a group of people you’d like to impress and you have the time and money, make them gourmet food to munch on and watch them eat with gusto.

I spent an entire summer driving around Missouri going from one cooking contest to the next. Most of these were outdoor events, usually a barbeque based event although there were others for all sorts of grilling and even one for turkey deep fat fryers. The largest one that I attended had barbeque chefs from all over the Midwest and was held in Kansas City. It was obviously designed to increase Missouri tourism as it was spread out over a three day period and one of qualifications to compete was that you had to let your local fans know where you were competing. Be that as it may, the food was wonderful and many of the participants were willing to share their recipes, which of course, contained this special spice mixture that was for sale at their display. I purchased quite a few of the mixtures and took them home to try them out. Some were nothing more than seasoning salt with some kind of heat added. Those were easy to replicate however some are still a mystery. The one I found most pleasing on my one barbeque was sweet, sour, and hot all at once. All my attempts to replicate the spice mixture have failed miserably.

You probably already use many types of herbs in your foods, but you probably get them from a bottle. Though these work, nothing works as well or tastes as good as herbs straight from an outdoor or indoor herb garden. Fresh is always best, and this is no exception. You have to allow them to dry and know how to store them before use, but you will find your food never tasted as good as it does when you use fresh herbs. To Build an Indoor Herb Garden Click Here

people must enjoy! do jogging eat less but don’t give up bread. it is one of the most enjoyable food on earth low curb, low card, hey be proportional. Curbofobia let yourself enjoy at least 1 day in a week. How The bread lovers can live without curb. if i take myself as an example. during the week if i eat bread it is only in the evening i limit myself to the amount let say 100 – 200 gram per day
if we have a big family dinner it could be different bread but still no more then 100 – 200 gram which is about 200 calories i don’t think it is too much. you know maybe it will be better to give up the junk food.

Of all the places to find a book of receipts Mount Rushmore South Dakota was not a place I would have thought to look. In the tourist center there was a book of receipts from the local people and it contained some wonderful dishes. Someone put some real time and effort into this publication as there were full color pictures of the dish and of the person who submitted it. Not all of it was what you would call local home town cooking either. There were some fancy deserts that would make the chef at the Hilton in New York City salivate. Of course there were local dishes too. There was your run of the mill pot roast with carrots and potatoes and your egg salad sandwich. There was an oriental stir fry with some spices that I had never heard of. There was a buffalo meatloaf that looked quite interesting. Now that’s one you would expect to see in a South Dakota cookbook. There are actually people there that raise buffalo much like farmers raise cattle for the food market. It is becoming more and more popular and can actually be found on the grocery store shelves nation wide now.

Fried rice is practically a staple at many oriental food places, particularly Americanized Chinese restaurants and buffets. In a world of picky eaters where oriental food holds many mysteries, fried rice is relatively safe because you can readily see what is in it. The fact that it is delicious is the reason why many people strive to create their own fried rice recipe.
There is really no one in particular fried rice recipe that you should follow. In fact, each time you make it, you will come up with something totally new. The basis of the recipe starts with leftover rice you have in your refrigerator and then adding other ingredients that you might have on hand.

When was the last time you picked up a newspaper or magazine, or turned on the television only to find yet another prescription drug being withdrawn from the market due to recently discovered severe, even fatal, reactions? Have you received a letter from a law firm asking you to become a plaintiff in a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit against a drug company? Prozac, the first of the SSRI-class of antidepressants, is currently under investigation due to several lawsuits where the drug was prescribed to adolescents who later committed suicide while taking the drug. And yet Prozac is the most tested drug in US history and was declared to be safe.

Everyone wants to lose weight. Not tomorrow – but today. Why should it take three years to lose 30 pounds if I need to wear a bikini in the spring?Â
One of the easiest ways to lose weight fast is by cleansing your system. I don’t mean that this is simple by any stretch of the imagination but it is pretty effective. Extra pounds hold extra toxins in our systems. When we cleanse the toxins out of our systems we are able to shed pounds in record time.
The approach does take quite a bit of will power and you will find that there are many more things that you can’t eat than there are things that you can. In order to lose weight fast you really want to cut out breads, pastas, junk food and even fruit.

My best buddy (and barbeque competitor) bought the Kenmore Elite 1167 sq. inch LP Gas Grill a few weeks ago and he’s done nothing but brag about it since. He brags about all of the super cool features. He goes on and on about the 5 Stainless Steel tube burners for 60,000 BTU plus the 12,000 BTU infrared main burner, the 12,000 BTU side burner and the 12,000 BTU infrared back burner LP gas grill, the heavy duty rotisserie the electronic ignition, the stainless grids and 1167 square inch total grill area.
I really hate it when he’s right but my great (I thought) grill just doesn’t stack up. I ordered my Kenmore Elite 1167 sq. inch LP Gas Grill today.

I love to find new receipts from different cultures. During my Illinois travel I found an area where the Amish live. If you want some wonderful down to earth cooking, I would suggest you visit there. The Amish don’t believe in using modern appliances so most all of their cooking is done the old way. They don’t see time as a factor, fast food for them is eating an apple right off the tree. Their homemade noodles are better than any factory produced product and they contain no preservatives. Thus they are very good for low sodium diets. I got to help make a batch once and it was quite an experience. The receipt is quite simple, just flour, egg yolks, and water. There is a large table where they make a pile of flour and then dig a well in the middle. In that well they place the eggs and slowly start mixing the inside of the flour pile with the eggs. Once that is all mixed they slowly add water, a tablespoon at a time until the proper consistency is obtained. Then the dough is kneaded until elastic and rolled out to paper thin. It’s cut into strips and placed on towels to dry.

The Council Bluffs restaurant club is holding a contest for who can find the best food in the area and come away with the receipt. This is a once every three year event and had proven to increase west central Iowa tourism. The last event in 2005 lasted six weeks and the restaurant industry in the area posted a fifteen percent increase in sales for that timeframe compared to the year before. The motel industry also noted a nine percent increase in overall rooms booked with a twenty percent increase in weekend bookings. People who registered with the event came from twenty three states with the largest block coming from Iowa with Nebraska a close second. Registration was not mandatory so all figures are not exact. There were many people who traveled through the area and found out about the event and took part for their limited stay. The favorite receipt was for smoked ribs and potato salad from a restaurant on the lower east side. The owner of that establishment said that his usual number of customers per day went from forty seven to well over a hundred. He stated that he had to purchase a new smoker to keep up with the demand. He was reluctant to give out his receipt but he is very glad he did now.

Different areas of the country have different food specialties and it is fun to sample as many as you can. I do a fair amount of Minnesota travel and as so have become accustomed to Norwegian foods. I guess each region of the country brings their heritage foods with them. Just as the food from the deep south comes from French. The foods from the northeast seem to be Viking food. As a whole we tend to go with what we are used to and not try different foods. That is a shame as there is such a wide variety of good foods out there to be consumed. I like to grab a cookbook that has Italian food in it and spend a week cooking Italian. Maybe the next week I will grab a Greek cookbook and cook Greek for a week. This way I have a wide variety of tastes to enjoy and it is actually quite healthy as there are a wide variety of types of food I consume. Some types cook with more vegetables, some with more meat, and some with more bread and pastas. By changing types I get a little of everything, maybe not daily, but at least I get them weekly.
