When it comes to dental health and oral hygiene, many of us believe we pretty much know about all there is to know about the topic. However, despite intense public information campaigns, widespread water fluoridation programs, and improved dental health products, there are some very sobering statistics regarding our failure to properly prevent common dental problems like cavities and gum disease. Here are a few statistics compiled by the CDC:
- Nearly 1 in 4 adults over the age of 60 have lost all of their natural teeth
- Nine in ten adults has tooth decay over the age of 40
- 1 in 4 children under the age of five already has a cavity
- 1 in 2 children aged 6-18 have at least one cavity-for those that do have cavities and also live below the poverty line-only half get treatment
- Upwards of 15% of adults are believed to have advanced gum disease
Clearly, despite what we are supposed to know about preventing common dental problems, something is going wrong. Nearly 30,000 people each year are diagnosed with throat or mouth cancer and the bacteria that cause gum disease and tooth decay may be a large factor in many of those cases. And it is indeed those harmful bacteria that cause most of our common dental problems and which may start even bigger medical issues if they spread beyond the oral cavity, including:
- Heart disease
- Infective Endocarditis
- Stroke
- Weakened immune system

An article about the Bunn Coffee Maker:
Right now I’m sticking with my 10 cup Bunn coffee maker. I use thermal carafes to keep coffee fresh and hot during parties. I can even make some decaf coffee in one and regular in the other carafe. However, if our family keeps getting bigger I may opt for a larger Bunn coffee maker. No matter what, I know that I will always serve great tasting coffee with this machine.

An article about the infamous Hot Chocolate Maker:
We usually only crave this drink in the winter when the temperatures dip down and we’ve spent some time outside ice skating or building snowmen. I also try and make certain that I keep some marshmallows close to the hot chocolate maker. The kids love popping a few marshmallows into their hot chocolate and then watching them melt. I’m trying to watch my figure so I bypass the marshmallows but I have been known to indulge in a bit of whip cream on top.

An article about Whole Bean Coffee:
When fresh coffee is roasted, it is roasted in whole bean form. They roast the beans to different tastes, and the beans are then either ground, or sent out whole. You can buy either kind, but you may want to consider buying whole bean coffee and grinding it in a coffee machine at home. This isn’t very difficult, and it won’t cost you much more than what you already pay. A bag of whole bean coffee costs the same as the ground coffee; at least it does where I shop. You have to invest in a coffee machine, but they aren’t very expensive, and they are very easy to use.

An article about Travel Coffee Mugs:
If you’re anything like my wife, getting up and going in the morning can take an extra push; usually that’s in the form of a cup of fresh coffee. Not all of us have the time it takes to sit and drink a full cup before we head out the door to work. That’s where travel coffee mugs really come in handy! Filling one of these with a steaming cup of decaf coffee (or regular, if you’re like me) when you leave, will supply you with the caffeine boost you need as you drive or travel to work on the bus.

An article about Decaf Coffee:
Three or four of my friends tease me about my fresh coffee consumption, but I had given up drinking soda years ago, and I needed something else to fill the need. For as long as I can remember, I have always had to have something to drink in my hand. My friends could go without, but that was never the case for me. If I’m not drinking fresh coffee, I have a bottle of water with me. That’s just the way it’s always been for me. Once I started drinking whole bean coffee, I found the joys of decaf coffee!

Different brands of green tea on the market do not contain the same levels of antioxidants. Actually it shows a wide variation from one brand to another. Quality green tea can be purchased just about everywhere, including natural grocers and online. The exact content of catechins may or may not be listed on the packaging, so do a research before purchasing. Everyone has gorged on cake mix, endured disastrous dinner parties, and put up with the loved one who can only ever produce burnt toast. Nigel Slater is no different. Hair-raising accounts of hotels modeled on Fawlty Towers, the mystery of the disappearing …

Here’s a short list of culinary garden herbs adaptable to windowsill, balcony or garden cultivation, along with some food matches. Basil: Sweet basil comes in several varieties, used in pesto, with cheese dishes, salads and especially (made in heaven) with tomatoes. As a knife collector, I am always looking for the best cutlery. When it comes to kitchen knives, I make no exception. Having a great set of cutlery for your culinary needs is essential. Some of the more important knives to invest in, that you will regularly make use of are; a good chef’s knife for all of your slicing, dicing and carving, a decent sized serrated bread knife for those baked goods, a small paring knife to aid you with all those fruits and vegetables, and a set of steak knives, which typically come in handy.

An important thing to look for in a charcoal grill is good legs – you don’t want your dinner toppling over into the dirt! You also want a cooking surface that’s big enough for your needs – are you just cooking a bit of meat for a picnic for two? Or do you need enough space to cook an entire meal for four?

I headed home with a few more cups of java that I picked up at a Starbuck’s not too far from home. Once I got home, I went to my old friend, the computer and hooked myself up to the Internet to complete the search for the right coffee pot replacement. This turned out to do the trick.

Do you like to keep a decent selection of latte syrups and coffee creamers lying around the kitchen for a random break from the norm, or if company should arrive? It’s always good to present others with a selection. Regardless if they like a nice espresso drink or a mere cup of drip coffee, there are syrups and coffee creamers to compliment either. I prefer to keep a few rich coffee creamers in my refrigerator for when my parents pop in. They are definitely old-school coffee drinkers and prefer to perk a fresh pot each morning.
