We live in a very nice neighborhood with lots of contacts between the neighbors. My husband and I exchange gifts with several of our neighbors each year, sometimes for the holidays and sometimes on other occasions. But each year it seems to get more difficult to think of a gift. This year we had a new idea and decided to give them cheese gift baskets. We did not like the pre-made cheese gift baskets that are available in the kiosks in the mall at all: that means that we had to create the baskets ourselves.

Daily Food Intake Requirements
Whenever we are in doubt about whether we are eating too much, we tend to look for answers on the Internet or with our healthcare providers as to what the ideal intake should be. Unfortunately, the answers that we find in all places are limited to the amount of calorific content that we are expected to ingest. In a nation carried by the storm of ‘counting calories’, there are very few people who are concerned and worried about the content of the calories. Neither does anyone bother to understand the amount of vitamins and minerals that an average body requires to stay healthy.

Bottled drinking water is one of the amazing new developments of the last decades. Things change in our society with an incredible pace. When I was growing up there was no such thing as bottled drinking water. If you were going to purchase something to drink the largest selection was soda. The only decision was to purchase it in a returnable bottle or not. Now the super markets are filled with a variety of bottled drinking water in many flavors.

What I mean is this: since I have always been overweight, I have spent a lifetime searching for the best weight loss plan for me. I have done—starting in my pre-adolescent years—yogurt and granola, skim milk and banana, cabbage soup, Weight Watchers (three times), Jenny Craig, Dr. Atkins, The Zone, the Hilton Head, the Suzanne Somers, and numerous other plans. I went with low fat, low-carb, went with the body-type diet, and onto the grey sheet of the 12-step program, Overeater’s Anonymous.

In campsite cooking, everyone is willing to allow a big margin of error, for the fun is more in the cooking than in the eating. So if your recipe doesn’t come out just right, you aren’t going to be hanged. You don’t take measuring cups, thermometers, measuring spoons or other such elaborate cooking equipments with you on your camping trails, so everything is approximate. Use your best judgment for your entire campsite cooking expeditions.

In this day and age life is not easy. Things are becoming more complex, life is moving faster and faster, and little in life becomes cheaper, whereas most things become either considerably more expensive, or obsolete. In these trying times one of the great bastions of tranquility has been alcohol, and of the many types of alcohol, wine has taken on a prestige and a mystique that entrances while it soothes. Oh, the tastes of summer. Lemonade, barbecued beef, and fire roasted organic vegetables. Hot and fresh off the grill, fire roasted organic vegetables are a double treat. Fire roasting caramelizes the natural sugars in veggies, giving them a slightly sweet, smoky taste. Because organic vegetables are more flavorful than conventional ones, you get twice the flavor when you make fire roasted organic vegetables…
