How much water do you actually drink? Although soft drinks and lattes are certainly all the rage these days, I believe a lot of people are taking to bottled drinking water.

It’s just so readily available. You can’t really go anywhere without spotting a bottle of Evian, or Auquifina. Fortunately this route is much healthier than the old carbonated sugar drinks that many have made their liquid life source. Water is that fluid we all require for basic health and hydration. Have you had your six to eight cups today? Well, if you’re one of the syrup guzzlers, you may want to do a little research on why water is so essential to good health and well being.

Slow Cookers

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Always ensure meat or poultry are thoroughly defrosted before putting it in a slow cooker. It is best to cut the food into small pieces to ensure they cook properly.

The slow cooker may take several hours to reach a safe, bacteria-killing temperature so avoid cooking a whole chicken or joint. If food is to be prepared in advance, be sure to store the ingredients seperately in the refrigerator following preparation until they are required.

Vegetables take longer to cook than meat or poultry, so put them in the bottom and around the sides of the pot. After adding the meat, cover the food with stock, broth or sauce as required.

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Let me give you a little tip about making up your wine gift baskets. Try to think of wine or food items that the person probably would not buy for himself or herself. You know how people are. Buy them that bottle of imported Italian Chianti that they always talk about but never would buy for themselves. Or include in your wine gift baskets that special gourmet food that you know they would never get to splurge on themselves. Wine gift baskets are a great gift that will be most appreciated.

A Little Preparation Goes A Long Way In Camping Meals

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Though dinner usually takes up the most time and energy, breakfast and lunch are also important meals while camping. Breakfast can easily be a cold meal, although it’s hard to start the day without a cup of camp coffee to go with your dried fruit or granola bar. Pita bread, bagels or tortillas make handy bases for lunch, as they allows for sandwiches and dips but still pack easily; they’re light but don’t crush like regular bread. Trail mix is a stand-by favorite, as is dried fruit as they provide quick energy while on the move.

Thanks to the Food Service Industry I Could Put Myself Through College Waiting Tables.

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

I put myself through college waiting tables.  I have friends who worked in fine dining establishments who would work four or five tables a shift and come home with four or five hundred bucks.  And I pass on to you the age-old wisdom of my elders, who used to say the best jobs to take were those in the food service industry, the grocery industry, or the funeral business…for, as they said, “People gotta eat and they gotta die.

You Can Cook If You Try

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Doing any job is easier when you have the right tools on hand. One of a cook’s best tools — and secret weapons — is having a well-stocked pantry.

Cooking is much simpler if you know that you’ve already got what you need on hand, and aren’t going to have to run to the corner market every time you want to fix a meal.

Having a well-stocked pantry is also the secret weapon of every “Hostess with the Mostest” especially when unexpected guests drop by.

Why Asian food found its way to my heart

Why Asian food found its way to my heart

Mothers often tell their daughters to learn how to cook because”the shortest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. Nowadays, cooking is no longer the turf of women; most men exemplified artistry and exceptional talent in cooking, more than women do. Perhaps because, men eat more?

Food, and our passion for it has indeed evolved through the years. Apart from being one of the bare necessities of life, we all view food with a certain degree of indulgence. Which is why, each culture, people and even nation has such a wide variety of food and cuisine to pander to all kinds of tastes. Try visiting an asian food market, asian food grocer,or asian food store and see a vast array of asian food. For sure, like me , you will drool…

Using an Acidic and Alkaline Food Chart is Easy

Friday, May 12th, 2006

It’s true that using an acidic and alkaline food chart is easy. Most of these types of charts contain lists that detail which foods are more acidic and which are more alkaline. For optimum health benefits it’s important to choose foods from both sides of the acidic and alkaline food chart. Your body’s pH is instrumental in how it functions against illness. A New Dawning for the Exercise Bike

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

The very first exercise bike I got was over a decade ago. It was a fairly simple piece of machinery. It looked like one half of a regular bike. And it was mechanically operated, with a simple belted-up gear contraption that you tightened by hand as you went along. I spent more time looking at that first exercise bike than actually using it for exercise until I finally moved it out of the room so I didn’t have to look at it and feel guilty that I was not using it to exercise on.

Is a Charcoal Grill better than a Gas Grill?

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Charcoal Grill:

The options we face when buying a grill are quite different than what our parents dealt with when buying a grill. Gas, electric, infrared, and portable grills just to name off a few options. Personally I have used a charcoal grill since I was very young. These smokey, grills are hard to let go of. While several friends tell me gas is the way to go, and coal is not as healthy as we thought it was, I still can’t forget about that awesome grilled taste of charcoal. Anyone who has grilled on gas as well as charcoal can vouch that there’s a BIG difference in taste of the food. When it comes to a charcoal grill, the flavor is much more tasty.
